Players won't normally kill you while you are afk, you can only die when you are afk only if you damaged a player, he will be able to kill you even when you are afk for a short period of time.

After you press esc button you are vulnerable for about 30s for another players (it was set because players were abusing going afk) and when you come,you die.

Ofcourse you didn't, someone decided to hit on purpose so you could just die because you were afk Its completely normal
